Cash Game and Tournament Formats
The only way to describe a poker game, besides whatever version is being played, is to determine whether it is a cash game or a tournament. Whatever version you’re playing, the fundamental rules are the same regardless of format, but there are some main variations in how you win or lose money.
You pay an entry fee in a tournament, and you earn a set number of chips that are the same amount as the other competitors. Every hand winner wins, however many chips will go into the pot and players are eliminated after they have lost all their chips. The target is to be the last remaining player or to win all the chips on the table.
Speed Poker Games
Speed poker is a fairly new version of the game launched at different online poker sites. This is played mainly with Texas Hold’em or Omaha and is played using either the cash game or the format of a tournament. Many of the regular rules are the same except they are played at a much quicker pace.
Whenever you fold a hand you will be immediately turned into another. This works by using a pool of players that are continuously rotating tables instead of placing players at a single table. It is not as hard as it sounds and it is one of the most fun ways to play online poker
Texas Hold ‘Em Games
Texas Hold ‘ Em is played in the World Poker Series, Texas Hold ‘Em is probably the world’s most famous poker game today. In Texas Hold ‘ Em, two “pocket” or “hole cards” are dealt with players and then they have to wait for 5 group cards to be released.
Betting takes place in four rounds: The hole cards will be dealt after the first three community cards have been revealed (referred to as “the flop”), once the fourth community card has been revealed (“the turn”), and lastly, after the fifth community card (“the river”) has been flipped. Players must make their best hands with any 5-card combination (their hole cards and the Common).
Omaha
Omaha is another form of Hold ‘ Em Poker game played at a time by 2-10 players. Players will use two of their hole cards and three of the common to make their best 5-card hands.
7-Card Stud
In a 7-Card Stud, 7 cards, 3 down and 4 up are dealt with each player. Players must make a 5-card hand from their 7 as best they can.
5-Card Draw
Each player is dealt 5 cards but the player can choose to exchange up to 3 of them on the initial go-around.
