In Omaha, the chances of making a good hand are greater than in Texas Hold’em, as each player receives 4 hole cards. And that benefit goes to everyone at the table. Therefore, the starting cards need to be analyzed differently from the modality from which Omaha is derived. The ideal is always to seek high pairs that have good Kickers, preferably of the same suit.
Medium pairs are speculative, so they can be played carefully in a hand with several opponents, but in Heads Up, it is not advisable. If the bets are cheap, it is worth trying to make a set on the Flop, but it is not worth insisting on the Turn. A pair of A is the best starting hand in Pot Limit Omaha. Do not do the risky slow play (hide the strong game waiting for the opponents to bet). Take the initiative to bet and raise the table when you fold with such a hand. A high pair, accompanied by straight cards, is also an excellent starting hand. When receiving these cards, if you are playing against multiple opponents, do not miss the chance to rise, regardless of your position. When you are one on one, this hand should be played very carefully so that you don’t get dominated.
What is the hand hierarchy in Omaha poker?
The order of winning hands in idn domino is the same as in most poker games. This hierarchy is defined according to the difficulty of each game in leaving the table. Here is the sequence of hands in Omaha poker –
- Royal Flush: straight suit with the biggest poker cards – 10, J, Q, K and A respectively;
- Straight Flush: a game made up of five consecutive cards of the same suit;
- Four of a Kind: hand made up of four cards of the same rank and a Kicker;
- Full House: formed by a set, 3 cards of the same value and a pair;
- Flush: game made up of 5 cards of the same suit regardless of value;
- Straight or straight: hand made up of five consecutive cards, regardless of suit;
- Trinca: game formed with 3 cards of the same value;
- Two pairs: as the name suggests, it is the game formed with two pairs, using the closed and community cards and a Kicker;
- A Pair: a game made up of two cards of the same value;
- High Card: last resort used to define who wins the pot – if there are no combinations above, the player with the highest card wins.
Dominated hands
Be careful with dominated hands, those that look strong but have low kickers. You risk being overwhelmed – thinking you are winning and dumping chips on the table. For example: you leave with A 9 4 7, and your opponent with AQ 9 4 and the Flop becomes A7Q. An inexperienced idnpoker player, without the proper game reading, is at high risk of losing all his chips in that round.
